Gary Hines coached at University of Kansas, Emporia State University and Iowa State University for twenty three years. He coached 10 All Conference pitchers and two All Americans, Tracy Bunge and Melissa Stevens, All Big 12 pitcher Rachel Zabriskie. Melissa Stevens holds ESU records in wins strikeouts and ERA. Rachel Zabriskie holds ISU records in wins and strikeouts among her 7 school records. The vast majority of pitchers have graduated from college and many have gone on to coach.
